We are pleased to announce that "Open RN" is officially trademarked from the United States Patent and Trademark Office. We are grateful for the opportunity to continue to create and disseminate nursing OER designed for student success based on the "brand" recognition we have established over the past 5 years with funding from the Department of Education!

NCSBN just released " The NGN Case Study " in their quarterly Next Generation NCLEX News, explaining how Next Generation questions are formatted in association with case studies.  The Open RN project is currently creating similar case studies and critical thinking questions for the Nursing OER Textbooks using H5P.   If you have personally developed similar case studies for your Pharmacology, Skills, Fundamentals, Mental Health or Management  courses that you would be interested in sharing with the Open RN project under CC by 4.0 licensing, please feel free to forward them to Kim Ernstmeyer at kernstmeyer@cvtc.edu. If your case study is selected for use by the Open RN workgroup, your name will be credited in the associated textbook.

Alternative learning activities for clinical during COVID-19 closings

Nursing faculty have reached out with questions regarding potential learning activities to substitute for clinical in the midst of the COVID-19 closings. Here are some options: A. The ARISE project , which was supported by a Department of Labor grant that has now ended. 150 simulations and serious games were created for nursing, respiratory therapy, and other disciplines.  Here are two ways to access these free scenarios, which require the use of an iPad and free app called "ARIS": 1. Newborn Virtual Simulation Scenario

As part of the response to the COVID-19 crisis, the Open RN team is pleased to announce the release of an OER Newborn Assessment Virtual Simulation  created in the H5P platform.  Faculty can incorporate this link into their learning management system for students to independently complete this scenario on their computer:  https://cvtc.h5p.com/content/1290975333436042968 An associated Teaching Plan is also provided for faculty with additional discussion questions that can potentially be used for a group activity.  Please provide feedback on this scenario using the survey link in the Teaching Plan.  We value your feedback as we continue to create additional virtual simulations using H5P.
