International Meeting on Simulation in Healthcare

Image
The Open RN Project Director attended IMSH in January  to research the current state of Virtual Reality in healthcare education in North America. Several VR vendors were visited in the Exhibit Hall and offsite, including:  SimX, Acadicus, Oxford Medical Simulation, UbiSim, STRIVR and Ikona Health.  Each vendor offers different types of learning opportunities while using VR, but all help develop critical thinking while encouraging students to apply knowledge to providing patient care. The environments feel so "real" within the VR headsets that people commonly fall from leaning or sitting on "virtual furniture" that isn't truly there!

ARISE - Augmented Reality healthcare scenarios

Image
While attending the International Meeting on Simulation in Healthcare (IMSH) conference this week, I discovered there is still a great deal of interest in the 150 free ARISE scenarios that we previously created as part of a previous Dept. of Labor TAACCCT4 grant.  Here is a link for more information about the ARISE project on Skills Commons:  http://support.skillscommons.org/showcases/open-courseware/healthcare/augment-reality/  where you can download the scenarios and read more information about how to use them with an iPad and QR codes.
