New Virtual Simulation - Interpreting Cardiac Rhythms Game 1

  The Open RN team has released a new virtual simulation in "serious game" format that assists students in learning how to analyze seven common cardiac rhythms. Rhythms include normal sinus rhythm, sinus bradycardia, sinus tachycardia, atrial fibrillation, premature ventricular contraction, ventricular tachycardia, and ventricular fibrillation. This learning activity will be incorporated into the Open RN textbooks. Virtual Simulation with VR Media: Administering Cardiac Medications to a Patient with Dementia

  The Open RN team has released a virtual simulation that was created using media from a virtual reality environment. In this virtual simulation, students must use clinical judgement and therapeutic communication to safely administer morning medications to Miles Johnson, an 87 year-old resident of a long term care facility  with dementia.  The learning objectives of the scenario are: Administer cardiac medications safely Analyze vital signs Communicate therapeutically with a patient with dementia This learning activity will be incorporated into the Open RN textbooks. New Virtual Simulation - Therapeutic Communication and Substance Abuse

The Open RN team is pleased to announce the release of another virtual simulation related to therapeutic communication. In this virtual simulation, a simulated patient named Alexis Putnam is a 20-year-old new mother (postpartum 2 hours) of a baby boy. She had planned to place the child up for adoption secondary to an extensive history of drug and alcohol use. However, she seems very unsure of her decision. The learning objectives for the scenario are: Implement appropriate therapeutic responses with a patient who has a history of substance use. Develop self-awareness of internal attitudes, beliefs and biases. This learning activity will be incorporated into the Open RN textbooks. Update on the Open RN Nursing Fundamentals Print Version by XanEdu

( Update by  Jodomando  is licensed by CC-BY 4.0) It has come to our attention the affordable print version of the Open RN Nursing Fundamentals textbook published by XanEdu will not be available for purchase until later this fall. We are confident it will be available for Spring 2022 courses. In the meantime, several alternatives can be offered to students and faculty who wish to use a print version in addition to the free e-book for Fall 2021 courses: Individuals can download the free print PDF from the home page of Open RN Nursing Fundamentals . The PDF can be printed in its entirety or by custom page numbers as needed. Bookstores can duplicate the print PDF for student purchase in the bookstore. Libraries can duplicate copies of the print PDF for student use in the library.
