Virtual Simulation with VR Media: Administering Cardiac Medications to a Patient with Dementia

The Open RN team has released a virtual simulation that was created using media from a virtual reality environment. In this virtual simulation, students must use clinical judgement and therapeutic communication to safely administer morning medications to Miles Johnson, an 87 year-old resident of a long term care facility  with dementia.

The learning objectives of the scenario are:

  • Administer cardiac medications safely
  • Analyze vital signs
  • Communicate therapeutically with a patient with dementia

This learning activity will be incorporated into the Open RN textbooks. It can also be directly accessed and implemented by using this hyperlink: https://cvtc.h5p.com/content/1291147520201847858. When implementing this scenario, the following attribution statement is recommended: "Administering Cardiac Medications to a Patient with Dementia by Chippewa Valley Technical College is licensed by CC-BY 4.0."
