New Virtual Simulation - Therapeutic Communication and Substance Abuse

The Open RN team is pleased to announce the release of another virtual simulation related to therapeutic communication. In this virtual simulation, a simulated patient named Alexis Putnam is a 20-year-old new mother (postpartum 2 hours) of a baby boy. She had planned to place the child up for adoption secondary to an extensive history of drug and alcohol use. However, she seems very unsure of her decision.

The learning objectives for the scenario are:

  • Implement appropriate therapeutic responses with a patient who has a history of substance use.
  • Develop self-awareness of internal attitudes, beliefs and biases.

This learning activity will be incorporated into the Open RN textbooks. It can also be directly accessed and implemented by using this hyperlink: https://cvtc.h5p.com/content/1291386910245663278.
