Alternative learning activities for clinical during COVID-19 closings
Nursing faculty have reached out with questions regarding potential learning activities to substitute for clinical in the midst of the COVID-19 closings.
Here are some options:
A. The ARISE project, which was supported by a Department of Labor grant that has now ended. 150 simulations and serious games were created for nursing, respiratory therapy, and other disciplines. Here are two ways to access these free scenarios, which require the use of an iPad and free app called "ARIS":

B. H5P branching scenarios are currently being developed for the Open
RN textbooks. These are screen based and can be completed independently by students on a computer with internet access or a smartphone. These scenarios are currently tailored for first or second semester students, but instructors could
potentially add higher level critical thinking questions when assigning them within their learning management system. - Describe nursing considerations for administering Vancomycin
- Identify the role obtaining a culture and sensitivity plays in the selection of an effective antibiotic
- Identify patient variables to consider when administering Vancomycin
- Identify factors that place the patient at risk for developing pseudomembraneous colitis or c-diff
- Identify laboratory factors related to the administration of Vancomycin
Are these ARIS nursing serious games available to nursing faculty at other academic institutions to use? I tried and unable to get the game to play, even after reviewing all troubleshooting suggestions.
