Next Gen RN Project

The Next Gen RN Project is a spinoff project of the Open RN project, funded by a $500,000 WTCS Core Industry grant. In collaboration with LibreTexts, the ADAPT software platform has been customized for nursing faculty to create NCLEX Next-Generation (NGN) style case studies, bowties, and other item types and share them with other faculty with CC BY 4.0 licensing.

To get started using the ADAPT platform:

  • View a Welcome Video that provides an overview of the Next Gen RN project and the ADAPT platform. (15 minutes)
  • Request a free personal instructor ADAPT account:
    • Go to https://adapt.libretexts.org/login then click on “Contact Us” in the upper right and request a personal account
      • Instructor status is verified by the ADAPT team; watch your email for a link to access your personal ADAPT account
      • Use this "Contact Us" feature to contact ADAPT regarding an institutional subscription.
  • After logging into your personal ADAPT account, you will be brought to the “My Courses” page.
    • You can view "Next Gen RN" case studies that nursing faculty have created and shared by clicking on “Dashboard” in the upper right corner, then “Public Courses,” then scroll down to “Next Gen RN.” The Next Gen RN “course” serves as a repository of the shared NGN case studies marked as “public.” (Note that “public” means these case studies and questions are available for viewing by other instructors.) Each case study is an ADAPT “assignment” that contains 6 NGN-style questions as well as tabs of patient information.

  • You can contact LibreTexts/ADAPT using the "Contact Us" feature for more information about obtaining an institutional account. With an institutional account, you can:
    • Create your own ADAPT “course” that will house your “assignments” that you can integrate into your actual courses in your LMS (i.e., Canvas or Blackboard).
    • You can “import” Next Gen RN case studies into your personal ADAPT account and use them as-is with students. You can also “clone” questions and revise them as desired. Additionally, you can create your own  case studies/questions in your personal ADAPT account to use with your students.
