First Quarter, Fourth Year Quarterly Monitoring Report

Here is the Open RN Quarterly Monitoring Report for the March 1-June 1, 2022 quarter.

Here is a high level overview of this quarter’s progress:

  • The Nursing Management and Professional Concepts e-book was published in Pressbooks April 1st. It was adopted for Spring and Summer 2022 courses by thirteen colleges nationwide. XanEdu will publish the affordable print version by August 2022 and it will be available on Amazon and in college bookstores.
  • The Nursing Mental Health and Community Concepts book has completed development and will be piloted in summer 2022 courses. It is currently undergoing national review by over 100 reviewers. The first edition of the e-book will be published in August for Fall 2022 courses and XanEdu will publish the affordable print version by January 2023.
  • Google Analytics currently shows over 3.5 million page views of the Open RN e-books by over 1.3 million international users.
  • As of June 1, 2022, individuals from over 598 colleges have downloaded one or more free edited print version PDFs provided by XanEdu.
  • Virtual Reality scenarios continue to be developed collaboratively by faculty, with a recent focus on OB scenarios using the new Acadicus OB simulator.
  • A WTCS “Core Industry Grant” application was approved with $500,000 of funding for creating a software platform capable of creating “NCLEX Next Generation” style formative assessments. Twenty case-study style questions with multiple test item types will be created as formative assessments that link to specific Open RN textbook content and also integrate into LMS used by WTCS colleges (i.e. Canvas and Blackboard). These case studies will have CC-BY licensing. This “Next Gen RN” grant project is a spinoff project from the Open RN project and will run from July 1, 2022 – June 30, 2024. Twelve of the sixteen WTCS colleges are participating as collaborative partners on this project. Read the “Next Gen RN” grant application for more information about this spinoff grant.
  • Presentations this quarter included a National Library of Medicine Region 3 “HealthBytes” webinar and participation in SPARC’s Open Textbook Pilot Rapid Reaction Webcast to share lessons learned during the Open RN project with potential FY22 OTP grant applicants.
  • The Nursing Assistant book (funded by HEERF using Open RN workflows) is completing development and will be ready for piloting and peer review in Fall 2022 semester.
