Nursing Fundamentals e-book is published!

 


The Open RN team is pleased to announce the first edition of the Nursing Fundamentals textbook has been published in Pressbooks. The free e-book and downloadable versions have CC-BY licensing and are located at https://wtcs.pressbooks.pub/nursingfundamentals  

The ISBN for the e-book is 9781734914146. XanEdu will also publish an affordable soft cover print version later this summer that will be available in college bookstores and on Amazon. The ISBN for the print version is 9781734914153. The e-book will also be uploaded to LibreTexts for easy remixing by faculty to align content with their curriculum.

We would like to thank all of the developing authors, contributors, reviewers, and Open RN Advisory Committee members for their time and effort in making the first three Open RN textbooks a reality - especially in the midst of many challenges occurring due to the COVID pandemic. It truly takes a community of dedicated members to create high-quality nursing OER!

Newborn Virtual Simulation Scenario

As part of the response to the COVID-19 crisis, the Open RN team is pleased to announce the release of an OER Newborn Assessment Virtual Simulation  created in the H5P platform.  Faculty can incorporate this link into their learning management system for students to independently complete this scenario on their computer:  https://cvtc.h5p.com/content/1290975333436042968 An associated Teaching Plan is also provided for faculty with additional discussion questions that can potentially be used for a group activity.  Please provide feedback on this scenario using the survey link in the Teaching Plan.  We value your feedback as we continue to create additional virtual simulations using H5P.

New virtual simulation activities - Patient with Heart Failure on a Ventilator and Patient with Chronic Angina

The Open RN team has quickly created 2 new H5P branching scenarios that can be used as "virtual simulation" by instructors trying to find  online learning activities to substitute for clinical. In addition to assigning these as independent learning activities, instructors could also potentially add additional group discussion questions regarding: focused assessments, setting goals and outcome criteria, prioritization of interventions, and evaluation.   Suggested discussion questions are included in the teaching plans below.
