Quarterly Monitoring Report, Second Quarter, Second Year

 


Here is a link to the Quarterly Monitoring Report for the Second Quarter of the Second Year of the Open RN grant.



Key activities completed this quarter:

1.  The Nursing Pharmacology e-book was published in June 2020 and the free edited pdf and affordable print version was published by XanEdu in August 2020.  Print versions are available in college bookstores and on Amazon. To date, there are almost 4000 users of the e-book nationally and internationally, and over 300 downloads by 200 institutions of the free pdf version. 

2.  Virtual reality scenario development has begun and five VR centers are being established at CVTC, Gateway, Madison, MPTC and NWTC. 

3.  There have been almost 13,000 views of the ARISE simulation OER videos uploaded to the Open RN YouTube channel. These videos have been incorporated into 12 online OER virtual simulations using H5P branching scenarios, and faculty also have the option to incorporate these videos into their own learning activities for remote online learning during the COVID pandemic. 

4.  Development of the Nursing Fundamentals and Skills OER textbooks has continued despite the COVID pandemic, with anticipated national peer review in early Spring 2021 semester.

Newborn Virtual Simulation Scenario

As part of the response to the COVID-19 crisis, the Open RN team is pleased to announce the release of an OER Newborn Assessment Virtual Simulation  created in the H5P platform.  Faculty can incorporate this link into their learning management system for students to independently complete this scenario on their computer:  https://cvtc.h5p.com/content/1290975333436042968 An associated Teaching Plan is also provided for faculty with additional discussion questions that can potentially be used for a group activity.  Please provide feedback on this scenario using the survey link in the Teaching Plan.  We value your feedback as we continue to create additional virtual simulations using H5P.

New virtual simulation activities - Patient with Heart Failure on a Ventilator and Patient with Chronic Angina

The Open RN team has quickly created 2 new H5P branching scenarios that can be used as "virtual simulation" by instructors trying to find  online learning activities to substitute for clinical. In addition to assigning these as independent learning activities, instructors could also potentially add additional group discussion questions regarding: focused assessments, setting goals and outcome criteria, prioritization of interventions, and evaluation.   Suggested discussion questions are included in the teaching plans below.
