Quarterly Monitoring Report - Second year, first quarter

Here is an overview of the exciting progress we’ve made over the past quarter:
- The first edition of the
Nursing Pharmacology book has been officially published in Pressbooks. To
access the electronic and downloadable versions of the textbook, go to: https://wtcs.pressbooks.pub/pharmacology/
. The textbook is also being uploaded into LibreTexts so that faculty
outside of WTCS can easily remix and align the book to their
curriculum. XanEdu,
the print publisher of OpenStax textbooks, will be creating optional,
affordable print versions that are projected to be available in college
bookstores and on Amazon for around $40 retail price. We would like
to publicly thank everyone who helped create the first edition of the
Nursing Pharmacology OER textbook, including the developing authors,
contributors, national peer reviewers, and advisory committee members.
Their names are listed in the Preface
section, along with a usage survey that we ask everyone who adopts the
book to complete every semester.
- In response to the
clinical site restrictions imposed relate to the COVID pandemic, over 120
simulation-related videos were uploaded to the Open
RN YouTube Channel with CC BY licensing. These videos,
originally created by the ARISE
project, contain simulated patients, nurse handoff reports and
interdisciplinary reports that can be used by faculty to create their own
online simulations and learning activities. Based on these
videos, twelve OER H5P
branching scenarios were created that promote the development of safe
clinical judgment and can be used as online virtual simulations.
These scenarios will also be incorporated as learning activities within
the Open RN OER textbooks.
- The development of
Virtual Reality scenarios has begun in collaboration with the VR vendor Arch Virtual.
- The Fundamentals and
Skills OER textbooks continue to be developed despite COVID-related
delays. We remain on track for publishing these books for Fall 2021
semester.
