Quarterly Progress Report, First Quarter, Year 5

  We are pleased to report on numerous activities occurring this quarter of the one-year no cost extension of grant funding from the Department of Education. This quarter’s Performance Report is available here . Here is a high level overview of this quarter’s activities: According to Google Analytics, there have been over 8.8 million page views by over 3.6 million international users of the Open RN OER textbooks since June, 2020. Over 60 colleges and universities across the United States and Canada have adopted affordable print versions of one or more Open RN OER nursing textbooks. The entire series of Open RN nursing OER textbooks can be viewed on the Open RN website. An additional OER online textbook entitled Nursing Advanced Skills was published in April 2023. Next Gen RN Project

  The Next Gen RN Project is a spinoff project of the Open RN project, funded by a $500,000 WTCS Core Industry grant.   The Open RN series of textbooks will be uploaded on this landing page on the National Library of Medicine's Bookshelf:  https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK590025/ The first upload, Mental Health & Community Concepts , is available at  https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/books/NBK590040/ The remaining Open RN OER textbooks will be uploaded over the next six months. They will be indexed and retrievable by search query with corresponding PubMed records.

Open RN Advanced Skills OER Textbook

  The Open RN team is pleased to announce the release of Nursing Advanced Skills . This is the sixth book of the Open RN textbook series with CC BY licensing, funded by the Department of Education's Open Textbook Pilot grant. Content includes advanced skills for entry-level registered nurses, such as intravenous infusion, blood product administration, management of central lines and chest tube systems, basic electrocardiogram interpretation, and nasogastric/feeding tube insertion. The book builds upon basic nursing skills discussed in Open RN Nursing Skills . It is aligned with the 2023 NCLEX-RN Test Plan and contains several free NCLEX Next-Generation style case studies and interactive learning activities.

Here is a high level overview of the project’s accomplishments this quarter: Google Analytics data continues to show broad international usage of Open RN textbooks with over 7.5 million page views by over 3 million international users. Additionally, 58 colleges and universities across the United States have adopted one or more print versions of the Open RN textbooks and 598 institutions have downloaded XanEdu’s free PDFs of Open RN print versions. A sixth OER nursing textbook entitled Advanced Nursing Skills completed the peer review process in February and will be published by May 2023. An affordable print version is anticipated to be available in bookstores and on Amazon by September 2023.
