OE4BW Webinar
Enjoyed participating in an international Open Education for a Better World (OE4BW) webinar this morning with a presentation by Jennryn Wetzler. Jennryn is the Assistant Director of Creative Commons and formerly worked at the U.S. Department of State.
Here are some takeaways/links from the presentation:
- Creative Commons licensing
- Best Practices for Attribution: https://wiki.creativecommons.org/wiki/best_practices_for_attribution
- Include TASL: Title, Author, Source and License followed by the phrase “unless otherwise indicated” to cover other sources with different CC licenses used in your work
- Attributions are a legal copyright requirement; academic citations are an expected academic norm for recognizing others’ ideas and not plagiarizing
- If content is scientific knowledge or “universally accepted,” it may not need to be attributed
- The Smithsonian and other museums are sharing open sources: https://www.si.edu/openaccess
- A Guide for Creative Commons for Educators and Librarians is available for download at https://creativecommons.org/2019/12/06/cc-for-educators-and-librarians-is-available/
